ACS Ecobor 40 – wood preservative paste for embedded timbers
A ready-to-use wood preservative paste containing disodium octaborate tetrahydrate (DOT) and benzalkonium chloride in a special blend of glycols. It is implanted into pre-drilled holes to treat in-situ building timbers – eradicating fungal attack and protecting against decay fungi and wood-boring insects. Particularly suited to damp, embedded timbers and as an integral part of a joist-end protection system used with boron rods.
Key benefits
- Wide spectrum of activity against decay fungi and insects
- Mobile preservative – distribution is independent of moisture content
- Low VOC; practically odourless and non-staining; non-flammable
- Suitable for joinery, roof and floor timbers
- HSE No. 10593
How to use
- Check the timber is not too decayed to treat.
- Drill 10–12mm holes – as a guide at 125mm centres along the grain and 50mm across, with a triangular pattern at end grain – to within 10–20mm of the back face (do not drill through). Target loading 4–6kg of product per m³ of timber.
- Clear the holes and fill with Ecobor 40 using a mastic gun (extended nozzle for holes over 100mm). With boron rods, part-fill, insert rods, then top up.
- Leave head space and plug with wood dowels.
Shelf life approx. 12 months unopened; store cool and dry. Use biocides safely – always read the label and product information before use.
