BIOKIL AquaDry WeatherForce Masonry Water Repellent
Breathable Protection Against Driving Rain and Penetrating Damp
BIOKIL AquaDry WeatherForce is a high-performance, ready-to-use masonry water repellent designed to protect external mineral surfaces against driving rain and penetrating damp. Its solvent-free polysiloxane formulation penetrates porous masonry to create an invisible hydrophobic barrier.
WeatherForce significantly reduces capillary water absorption without blocking the substrate's pores, allowing treated walls to remain naturally breathable. It can be applied to damp masonry, making it suitable for use throughout a wider range of weather conditions than conventional surface sealers.
Key Features & Benefits
- Protects external masonry against driving rain and penetrating damp
- Solvent-free polysiloxane formulation
- Penetrates deeply into porous mineral surfaces
- Creates an invisible, water-repellent barrier
- Maintains the natural vapour permeability of masonry
- Significantly reduces capillary water absorption
- Can be applied to damp substrates
- Dries clear without altering the character of the treated surface
- Helps suppress moss, algae and mould by keeping masonry drier
- Reduces the movement of moisture responsible for efflorescence and salt staining
- May help reduce internal cold spots and surface condensation
- Drier walls can help reduce evaporative heat loss
- Ready to use without dilution or mixing
- Suitable for application by brush or low-pressure spray
Suitable Surfaces
- Common and facing brickwork
- Sandstone and limestone
- Concrete
- Cementitious mortars
- Lime-based mortars
- External renders
- Porous masonry facades
Typical Applications
- Domestic properties
- Commercial and industrial buildings
- Agricultural structures
- External masonry elevations
- Chimneys
- Lintels
- Window and door cills
- Walls affected by driving rain or lateral penetrating damp
Surface Preparation
The receiving surface must be clean and free from dust, dirt, moss, algae and loose material. Heavy organic growth should be removed mechanically. Avoid aggressive pressure washing, as this may damage mortar joints or force additional moisture deeper into the masonry.
After cleaning, apply a suitable biocidal wash to neutralise remaining spores and help inhibit regrowth. Inspect the masonry carefully and replace damaged bricks where practical. Defective mortar joints should be repaired using an appropriate cementitious or lime-based mortar before WeatherForce is applied.
Application
- Ensure the prepared surface is clean and structurally sound.
- If the masonry is dry, lightly mist it with clean water until it is damp but not wet or glistening.
- Apply the first coat by brush or low-pressure spray.
- Allow the first coat to absorb into the substrate.
- Apply a second coat wet-on-damp.
- Apply the product to refusal, beginning at the top of the area and working downwards.
- Brush out runs and drips to achieve even distribution.
Protect windows, glass, metalwork, plants and other adjacent surfaces from splashes and overspray. Avoid spraying overhead and prevent runoff from entering drains, waterways or planted areas.
Coverage
Approximate coverage is 4–6 m² per litre. Actual coverage will depend on the porosity, texture and condition of the receiving surface. Two wet-on-damp coats are required.
