The BioTherm Internal Wall Insulation System is an innovative ultra-thin thermal lining designed to improve the thermal performance of cold internal walls while helping reduce condensation, damp-related issues, and mould growth.
Manufactured from a unique patented woven polyester-based material, BioTherm provides effective thermal insulation in a layer just approximately 4mm thick, making it ideal for properties where traditional insulation systems would reduce valuable room space. When installed using BioTherm Adhesive and finished with a plaster skim, the complete system typically achieves a finished thickness of only around 10mm.
Its vapour permeable yet waterproof construction allows walls to breathe naturally while preventing lateral damp transfer and efflorescent salt formation, helping create warmer, drier, and healthier living environments.
Key Features & Benefits
- Ultra-thin insulation system – only approximately 4mm thick
- Minimal room space loss – ideal where space is limited
- Reduces condensation – helps eliminate cold wall surfaces
- Helps prevent mould growth – reduces conditions that encourage mould formation
- Vapour permeable but waterproof – allows walls to breathe while resisting moisture transfer
- Reduces heat loss – improves energy efficiency and comfort
- Flexible and lightweight – easy to install around sockets, switches, and radiators
- Minimal disruption installation – skirting boards and architraves can often remain in place
- Suitable for direct plaster skim finishing
- Ideal for older solid wall properties
Typical Applications
- Cold external walls
- Solid brick wall insulation
- Condensation-prone rooms
- Mould prevention projects
- Victorian and period properties
- Living rooms and bedrooms
- Rental properties
- Residential and commercial refurbishments
- Properties where traditional insulation systems are impractical
How BioTherm Works
BioTherm creates a thermal break between the internal room environment and the cold wall surface, increasing wall surface temperatures and reducing the likelihood of condensation forming.
Unlike traditional insulated plasterboard systems, BioTherm achieves this while occupying very little space. The waterproof yet vapour permeable structure also helps prevent lateral damp transfer and the formation of efflorescent salts often associated with cold, damp walls. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Ideal For Condensation & Mould Problems
Cold wall surfaces are one of the most common causes of condensation and subsequent black mould growth. By increasing wall surface temperatures and reducing moisture build-up, BioTherm helps create conditions that are less favourable for mould development.
This makes it particularly effective in bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, and other areas where external walls are prone to becoming cold during winter months.
Preparation Before Installation
- Ensure walls are clean, dry, and free from dust or loose materials
- Remove wallpaper and decorative coverings
- Treat any mould growth using a suitable fungicidal wash
- Repair cracks and holes using suitable fillers or mortar
- Identify and rectify any sources of dampness before installation
- Prime highly porous surfaces if required
Installation Instructions
- Apply BioTherm Adhesive to the wall using a notched trowel to approximately 5mm thickness.
- Embed the BioTherm insulation layer into the wet adhesive.
- Press firmly using a roller or flat trowel to ensure full contact.
- Overlap joints by approximately 50mm.
- Allow adhesive to cure fully.
- Apply a plaster skim coat directly over the BioTherm surface.
- Decorate as required once fully dry.
Minimal Disruption Installation
Due to its flexibility and low profile, BioTherm can often be installed without removing door architraves, skirting boards, radiator brackets, or other decorative features.
The material can also be easily cut around sockets, switches, pipework, and window reveals, making installation faster and less disruptive than conventional insulation systems.
