BIOKIL. Passive Vapour Vent – energy-free condensation control
The BIOKIL. Passive Vapour Vent is a low-maintenance, energy-free solution for managing indoor condensation and dampness. Designed to work passively around the clock, it helps reduce heat loss, draughts and night-time disturbance without any moving parts.
Its design allows continuous vapour control in high-condensation areas, making it ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. Suitable for a range of wall types and easy to install, it provides efficient, long-lasting moisture control without the running costs of traditional ventilation.
Key features
- Transparent to water vapour – acts as a passive dehumidifier
- Works passively 24 hours a day, including at peak condensation times
- No moving parts, no noise and no running costs
- Reduces draughty airflow and heat loss
- 20% more efficient than a conventional cowl / grill
- Special cowl design
- Can be installed in around 1 hour
- Affordable one-off cost with low installation costs
Versions
- Low Rise / Standard (code PVV) – 102mm diameter, 350mm length
- High Rise (code PVVHR) – 117mm diameter, 350mm length; self-sealing on the external side, so no outside work is needed – ideal where access is restricted or at height
- Internal grill in white
Typical applications
Areas prone to dampness and condensation such as bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and basements, especially spaces with limited ventilation or high humidity. Suitable for residential and commercial buildings.
Where to fit
- In the coolest, most stagnant area of each room – often a corner prone to condensation
- At high level with the top 300mm from the ceiling, as far as possible from the entrance door; alternatively 300mm above floor level
- Kitchens: fit a cooker hood vented outside, with the vent diagonally opposite and at least 1.5m away on an external wall
- Bathrooms: fit a mechanical extractor fan (ideally humidity-controlled) with the vent diagonally opposite
Installation
- Check the location is free from pipes, cables and load-bearing lintels.
- Core drill through the masonry with a 107mm, 117mm or 162mm dry core bit, depending on the model.
- Apply a continuous mastic seal internally and externally – BIOKIL. Multi-Purpose Silicone is recommended.
- Secure the internal louvre cover and external cowl with the screws and plugs provided.
- Before redecorating, clean affected surfaces with BIOKIL. Mould Wash Concentrate; for added protection repaint with BIOKIL. Anti-Mould Emulsion.
