Heavy-Duty Two-Part Epoxy DPM for Internal Floors

BIOKIL PremSeal Epoxy DPM is a heavy-duty, solvent-free, two-part epoxy resin system designed to suppress residual moisture within concrete and sand-cement floors. Once cured, it forms a durable, continuous surface damp-proof membrane, allowing suitable floor coverings to be installed sooner.

The system can also provide a vapour barrier where an existing sheet membrane is missing or defective. One coat isolates residual moisture readings up to 92% relative humidity, while two coats can be used for readings up to 100% relative humidity.

Surface Preparation

The receiving floor must be sound, smooth, clean and surface dry. Remove dust, grease, adhesive residue, laitance, surface hardeners, waterproofing treatments and any other material that could prevent adhesion.

The subfloor temperature must be above 10°C during application. New screeds should be allowed to cure for at least seven days. Power-floated floors must be suitably shot-blasted or etched to create an appropriate surface for adhesion.

Hollows and day joints can be filled using mixed PremSeal Epoxy DPM combined with clean, dry sand or grit. Allow these repairs to cure before applying the main membrane.

Mixing

1. Empty the complete contents of the hardener into the resin container.
2. Mix thoroughly for two minutes using a low-speed drill fitted with a suitable power whisk.
3. Scrape the sides of the container to ensure the components are completely blended.
4. Apply the mixed material immediately and do not leave it standing in the container.

The full contents of both components should be mixed together. Incomplete mixing may result in soft or uncured areas, while excessive mixing can generate heat and shorten the available working time.

Application

1. Pour the mixed product onto the prepared floor immediately after mixing.
2. Apply evenly using a roller pre-wetted with the mixed material.
3. Work the coating across the surface to produce an even, continuous and pinhole-free membrane.
4. Do not spread the product beyond its recommended coverage rate.
5. At wall junctions, continue the membrane up to the damp-proof course line.
6. Allow the first coat to cure, typically for approximately three hours at 20°C.
7. Apply a second coat when required by the moisture reading or substrate condition.

Very absorbent surfaces may require a second coat to achieve complete coverage and a continuous gloss finish. Once the membrane has cured, apply the primer, levelling compound or adhesive specified for the chosen floor covering.

Coverage

Limitations

• Not suitable as a finished wearing surface and must be overlaid
• Not suitable for use with underfloor heating systems
• Do not apply to synthetic anhydrite subfloors
• Do not bridge movement joints; seal these separately after applying the membrane
• Do not apply to contaminated, unsound or inadequately prepared floors
• Do not exceed the recommended coverage rate
• Do not store above 25°C before mixing

Storage and Safety

Store the unopened product between 5°C and 25°C. Wear suitable protective gloves, clothing and eye or face protection during mixing and application. Use the product in a well-ventilated area and avoid contact with the skin and eyes.

The resin contains epoxy constituents and may be harmful to aquatic environments. Dispose of unused material and containers in accordance with applicable hazardous-waste requirements. Always read the current product label, technical data sheet and safety data sheet before use.
