BIOKIL. Sanitary Silicone – high performance sanitary grade silicone sealant
BIOKIL. Sanitary Silicone is a high performance, low maintenance, fungal resistant, waterproof one part silicone sealant with excellent adhesion to ceramics, glass, melamine laminates and sanitary plastics. It is also compatible with anodised aluminium and lacquered metals, and contains a biocide to prevent unsightly mould growth.
Specially designed to seal in damp and humid areas. Conforms to EN 15651-1,3: 2012.
Key features
- Fungal resistant – contains a biocide to prevent mould growth
- Waterproof – specially designed for damp and humid areas
- High performance, low maintenance seal
- Excellent adhesion to ceramics, glass, melamine laminates and sanitary plastics
- Accommodates ±20% movement
- EN 15651 F EXT-INT and sanitary sealant (S1)
Typical applications
- Sealing around worktops, basins and sinks
- Sealing bed basins to vanity units
- Sealing shower trays and shower units
- Bath surrounds and waste outlets in sinks and baths
- Anodised aluminium; lacquered and primed metals
- Painted timber and plaster; primed or painted concrete
Application
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from grease or contaminants, and remove any old sealant.
- Apply with a standard sealant gun, nozzle cut at 45° to an opening slightly larger than the joint. Use polythene foam, rod or tape to support large gaps.
- For bath surrounds, half fill the bath with water first so the sealant is applied at the joint mid point.
- Tool down within 5 minutes using a wet spatula or sealant applicator tool; bed any trims in within 5 minutes.
- For waste outlets, apply so the sealant will be in compression after tightening the connecting pipes.
Limitations
- Do not use on bare metal or fresh concrete without priming
- Natural stone, particularly marble, must be protected by primer/sealer
- Not suitable for mirrors
- Metallised plastic trims: test for discolouration before use
